On February 27, 2024, Rovshan Najaf, President of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR), held a meeting with Giulia Chierchia, Executive Vice President for Strategy, Sustainability, and Ventures at bp.
The meeting centered on the unanimous decision to designate Azerbaijan as the host country for COP29, reflecting the unified stance of the international community and demonstrating trust and respect for the nation. The parties also highlighted the significance of the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation on environmental protection signed between SOCAR and bp in December 2023, reviewing the progress made.
During the meeting, SOCAR presented its environmental initiatives, outlining medium and long-term objectives to reduce emissions, achieve zero gas flaring in production, reduce emission intensities, and Zero Methane and Net Zero targets by 2050. Additionally, SOCAR has also underscored the attainment of these objectives as central to its primary goals
Throughout the meeting, the parties also participated in discussions about energy transition and other areas of mutual interest.
