On November 15, 2024, an event on "Accelerating Decarbonization in the Oil and Gas Industry" took place in the "Blue Zone" at COP29. The event was organized by the Oil and Gas Decarbonization Charter (OGDC) and supported by SOCAR.
Executives from SOCAR Group, TotalEnergies, representatives of the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), and other interested parties participated in the event.
SOCAR President Rovshan Najaf, TotalEnergies CEO Patrick Pouyanné, and EDF President Fred Krupp joined the event, which was moderated by Julien Perez, Executive Director of the OGDC Charter.
At the event, a representative from the OGDC Charter gave a presentation, providing detailed information on the charter's goals, the number of member organizations, their achievements in decarbonization, upcoming objectives, and the strategic targets set to achieve them.
Following this, parties exchanged views on the achievements of OGDC member companies in reducing emissions since COP28, strategic priorities for decarbonization, goals for the coming years, as well as cooperation, innovation, and the current challenges in this field.
During the discussions, parties emphasized the particular importance of reducing methane emissions in the context of global climate change. It was highlighted that the initiatives carried out under the OGDC framework would significantly contribute to strengthening global efforts to reduce emissions, mitigate the effects of climate change, and implement more sustainable environmental solutions.
