Tersdeller

The Tersdeller field is located between the Kura and Gabirri (Iori) rivers, in the territory of the Shamkir administrative region. Due to its regional tectonics and stratigraphic elements, the Tersdeller fold belongs to the Kura and Gabirri inter-river oil and gas region.

The field’s structural and tectonic data was created mainly through seismic surveys in the region, as well as through drilling of deep wells there. The first tectonic data of the Kura lowland, one of the largest structural elements in the Caucasus region, was given by P. Rengarten, D. Arkhangelsk and M. Gubkin in 1930s. In order to study the deep geological structure and structural-tectonic features of the lowland, geophysical research has been conducted there since 1927, and in 1949 local anomalies were discovered between the Kura-Gabirri rivers. The results confirmed that the sedimentary rocks in the area have a greater thickness and made the study of deeper layers necessary to identify oil and gas reserves. The field consists of a 3 km long and 1.5 km wide fold in the north-west and south-east direction.

Exploration well No. 1 in the Tersdeller field was put into operation in September 1983 with a daily production of 250-300 tons of oil, which contained 10.67% resin, 0.8% paraffin and 0.147% sulfur. It is considered as low-sulfur oil. As of the 1st of January 2024, 27 wells have been drilled and 149,900 tons of oil has been produced there.

The field is operated by the A. Amirov OGPD of SOCAR’s Azneft PU.
