Lokbatan-Puta-Goushkhana

The Lokbatan-Puta-Goushkhana field is located in the south-west of the Absheron Peninsula, 15-20 km from Baku. The Lokbatan field was discovered in 1932, and the first exploration well was drilled in the south-west of the Lokbatan fold where oil gushed from the well. A well drilled in this area in May 1933 produced an unprecedented high production and pressure, with a daily production of 20,000-22,000 tons of oil.

In 1938-1940, oil and gas reserves were identified in the new Goushkhana field. Until the last recalculation of oil and gas reserves in 1978, the field was considered as separate development areas - Puta, Goushkhana and Lokbatan. During the research work, it was considered expedient to accept these areas as a single field - Lokbatan-Puta-Goushkhana, both in terms of geology and development.

Industrial development of the field began in 1927 and as of the 1st of January 2024, a total of 1,766 wells have been drilled and 43.9 million tons of oil and 6.817 billion m3 of gas have been produced there. 63% of the wells in operation have been drilled in the course of more than 30 years.

Considering the potential of the field, new wells are planned to be drilled in the VIII horizon.

The Lokbatan-Puta-Goushkhana field is operated by the A. Amirov OGPD of SOCAR’s Azneft PU.
