Kurdakhany

The Kurdakhany field is located on the Absheron Peninsula, 8 km north of the Balakhany-Sabunchu-Ramana oil field. The fold is tectonically included in the Kurdakhany-Mashtagha-Buzovna anticline fold and extends eastward. Although geological exploration and prospecting was first carried out in the Kurdakhany field in 1914-1917, the first well was drilled in 1941 and produced commercial oil. The field was involved in industrial development in 1950. Its total oil area with brachioanticline structure is 163 ha, and the current oil area is 44 ha. Since the beginning of development, 59 wells have been drilled in the field, and by the 1st of January 2010, 19.741 thousand tons of oil and 50 thousand m3 of gas were extracted from these wells. The field’s reserves were estimated several times - first in 1941, then in 1955 and 2002. The operating wells in the field were liquidated on the 1st of May 2010 and the field operation was suspended.

Since the 1st of January 2012, the field has been developed by the Azerbaijan branch of the Balakhany Operating Company LTD. In June 2010, SOCAR, SOCAR Oil Affiliate and Singapore’s UGE-Lancer PTE Ltd signed the Agreement on Rehabilitation, Exploration and Production Sharing for the Block including Balakhany-Sabunchu-Ramana and Kurdakhany fields.
