The main product of the Heydar Aliyev Baku Deep Water Jackets Factory (BDWJF), which was founded in 1978, is a deep water jacket for the development of offshore oil and gas fields. The factory is engaged in the design, producing, installation, uploading, transportation, placing at the project point, reinforcing support blocks and launching of deep offshore platforms.
Since 1984, the construction of stationary offshore platforms for a depth of up to 200 m has been carried out in the grounds of the Heydar Aliyev BDWJF. The first stationary platform was installed and launched in 1985. It was the first support block of the Stationary Offshore Platform No. 6. In 1986, the second support block of this platform was built and installed in the sea. In the same year, the factory achieved its project capacity.
In 1992, the factory successfully implemented its first contract and produced jackets for BP’s North Sea operations. After the Contract of the Century was signed on the 20th of September 1994, the factory actively joined all oil projects carried out in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea. Before this event, the factory built 11 stationary offshore platforms at a depth of 100 - 163 m.
The Deep-Water Jackets Factory, as a state enterprise subordinated to SOCAR, was created on the basis of the Shelf Project and Construction PA in accordance with Order No. 844 issued by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the 24th of January 2003 and Order No. 258 of SOCAR issued on the 31st of March 2003. The factory was named after National leader Heydar Aliyev in 2004. In the same year, the National leader’s monument was inaugurated in front of the factory. President Ilham Aliyev attended the inauguration ceremony.
In 2001, BOS Shelf LLC was founded as a joint venture, and according to SOCAR’s Order No. 196s on leasing of property issued on the 14th of September 2012, the buildings and facilities on the factory’s balance sheet were leased to BOS SHELF LLC. In 2022, the lease agreement was extended for another 10 years.
The Plant cooperated with bp (United Kingdom), MacShelf (USA-Azerbaijan JV), Petrofac (USA), Caspian Shipyard Company LTD (Singapore), Siemens (Germany), Rosetti (Italy), McDermott (USA), and STAR GULF (France) at various levels, implementing several large-scale projects. BDWJP also successfully implemented the orders of AzTransReil LLC, Azkompozit, Garadagh Cement OJSC, Imishli Sugar Factory, and other external organisations. At the request of SOCAR, the Plant implemented projects of various scales in the Absheron Bankasy, Oil Rocks, Darvin Bankasy, Umid, and Gunashli fields in 2006-2008.
The total production capacity of the factory is 60,000 tonnes of metal structures per year, which allows 2-3 blocks of deep platforms to be assembled at the same time at different depths. The total area of the workshop, field and buildings of the factory located in Garadagh district of Baku, on a grounds of 190.64 ha, is 613,722 m², including the production workshops - 137,320 m², open piers – 181,800 m², auxiliary workshops – 20,882 m², factory warehouses – 16,720 m² and installation areas - 420,000 m².
Alongside the deep-water jackets, the factory also produces various brands of welding rods and welded metal constructions based on domestic orders, basic construction and other relevant contracting works. The factory produced jackets and superstructures for the Central Azeri, East Azeri, West Azeri, and Deepwater Gunashli fields and topsides where most of the Azerbaijani oil is produced, as well as the jackets of the platform installed in the Shah Deniz field, which constitutes the first segment of the Southern Gas Corridor project.
In August and September 2020, it marked the start of the Garabagh and Absheron Fields Offshore Operations, respectively. The ceremonies for the sailaway of the jackets built by BOS Shelf were held at the Heydar Aliyev BDWJF. President Ilham Aliyev attended the ceremonies.
President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has participated in the Azeri Central East platform jacket sail away ceremony at the Heydar Aliyev Baku Deepwater Jackets Factory. The ACE jacket weighs 16,000 tonnes and stands 153 metres high. It contains three risers - one water injection, one oil export and one gas export. The jacket has been installed in a water depth of 137 metres.
