East Hajivali

The East Hajiveli field is located in the south-west of the Absheron peninsula, 65 km from Baku city, on the Hajiveli plateau west of the Umbaki field. The central part of the site is covered with mud volcano breccias. Tectonically, the East Hajiveli fold is a large anticlinal structure extending in the latitude direction. The fold is compounded by a large-amplitude, high-amplitude uplifted fault passing through the arch and several transvesal faults. The fold is separated from the West Hajiveli in the west and Umbaki" structures in the east by a clearly distinguishable saddle.

The first information on the geological structure of the East Hajiveli area was given by M.Y.Sibik and S.A.Zusmanovic in 1931. A perfect geological map of the area on a scale of 1:20000 was compiled by Y.A. Malikov in 1937. As a result of the geological research conducted in 1949-1954, it was determined that the field is an anticlinal fold complicated by an overthrust fault. In 1965-1967 and in 1994, seismic exploration works were carried out in the area and additional materials about the depth structure of the area were obtained.

The East Hajivali field was discovered in 1951. The fold is separated from West Hajivali in the west and Umbaki in the east by a clearly defined saddle. The productive strata of the East Hajivali field lies at a depth of 1,800-2,400 m. In 1951, well No. 1 was put into operation with a daily production of 15 tons of oil. Numerous structural and deep wells have been drilled in the area. The main deep exploration work was carried out in 1951-1952. In total, 24 wells were drilled in the West and East Hajivali fields, of which only industrial oil was extracted from wells No. 1 and 11 in the East Hajivali field.

The oil from the East Hajivali field is heavy and resinous. As of the 1st of January 2024, 48,900 tons of oil has been extracted from the field. It was operated by Gobustan Operating Company from 1998 to 2022. The exploration, development, and production sharing agreement on three blocks including Shikhzagirli, Sheytanud, Burgut, Donguzduk, Nardaran, Ilkhichi, West Hajivali, Sundi, East Hajiveli, Turaghay, Kanizadag, West Duvanny, Duvanny, Solakhay and Dashgil fields of South-West Gobustan was terminated on the 20th of April 2022.

The field is on the balance sheet of the Nariman Narimanov OGPD of Azneft PU.
