The study of the Beyimdagh-Tekchay field in the Caspian-Guba oil and gas region began in the early 20th century. For the first time, in 1930, B.D. Golubyatnikov reported the existence of an anticlinal fold there. In 1933, M.F. Mirchink conducted the field mapping and in 1951 A.N. Shardanov carried out an accurate geological mapping. Additional information on the existence of the structure and its tectonic elements was obtained through seismic surveys. Structural mapping carried out in 1954-1960 determined that the Beyimdagh-Tekchay area consisted of two tectonic rises (Beyimdagh and Tekchay). Deep exploration drilling began in 1959 and continued intermittently until 1974.
In 2001-2008, the geological structure of the southeastern part of the Beyimdagh-Tekchay field was relatively clarified by seismic exploration. Oil and gas flow was observed only in 4 wells out of 20 exploration and 3 appraisal wells drilled in the field. 64,000 m3 of gas and 19 tons of oil were extracted daily from well No. 3, the most productive oil and gas well at depths of 1,812 to 1,770 m. During the exploitation period from December 1961 to the middle of 1968, 2,850 tons of oil were extracted and then the well was abandoned for technical reasons. Data on well No. 7, which produced 25,000 m3 of gas per day, allowed gas-condensate reserves to be discovered in the southwestern limb of the structure.
According to these results, an exploration well No. 31, with a planned depth of 1,850 m, was drilled in 2009 near the arch of the southwestern limb to determine the depth of tectonics and assess the oil and gas content of the field. Core and sludge samples taken during the drilling operations showed that the microfauna sediments that were found belonged to the Middle Jurassic Age. A report prepared based on complex mining and geophysical survey said that there were no industrial oil and gas facilities in the area. Drilling and production operations need to be carried out in the structure.
The Beyimdagh-Tekchay field is on the balance sheet of Siyazan Oil OGPD of SOCAR's Azneft PU.
