The Bahar gas condensate field is located about 25 km from the coast, 20 km south of Gum Island. The field, being a brachy anticline fold tectonically extending meridionally, is 10 km long and 4.5 km wide covering an area of 56 km². The Bahar field is located from the Gum-Deniz field towards the sea and at a depth of 15-25 m.
The Gum-Deniz and Bahar fields consist of a main fracture anticline with a structural closure of 450-500 m. The southern part of the Bahar field is surrounded by a mud volcano. The depth of the layers is 3,200-5,300 m. The first industrial gas condensate flow from the field was received in 1968. The oil extracted from the Bahar field contains sufficient resin (5-6%) and asphaltenes (2-3%). The maximum oil and condensate production in the field (896,000 tons) was recorded in 1975, and the maximum gas production (6.7 billion m3) in 1986. As of the 1st of January 2024, a total of 203 wells have been drilled in the field. Since the beginning of development, these wells have produced 131.5 billion m3 of gas (free and dissolved gas), 6.2 million tons of oil and 10.7 million tons of condensate. Of the 23 wells in the production well fund, 12 are in operation and 11 are inactive.
The Bahar field is exploited by the Bahar Energy Operating Company. The production sharing agreement on this field was signed on the 22nd of December 2009 between SOCAR, Bahar Energy LTD and SOCAR Oil Affiliate (share distribution: SOCAR-Oil Affiliate - 20%, "Bahar Energy Limited" - 80%) and ratified by the Azerbaijani Parliament on the 27th of April 2010 and entered into force on the 1st of October 2010.
