Alat Deniz

The Alat-Deniz field is located in Baku archipelago, 50 km south-west of Baku city, 10 km south-east of Alat Cape. The field with the length of 8.8 km and width of 5.5 km covers an area of 25.8 km².

The existence of the Alat-Deniz rise located in the coastal shelf zone of the Caspian Sea with a depth of up to 10 m, was identified in 1951-1952, and in 1952, drilling was carried out there for mapping the area. In 1957-1959, the south-eastern and south-western parts of the area were studied by accurate seismic surveys using the method of reflected waves, but its arch was not studied due to the shallowness of the sea in that area. Starting from 1958, structural-search wells were drilled from separate platforms in the Alat-Deniz structure, and by the end of 1961, 41 wells were drilled there. In 1960-1965, along with structural exploration drilling, deep exploration drilling was also carried out. In the Alat-Deniz field, the wells are located on separate platforms at considerable distances from each other.

59 wells were drilled in the field until 01.01.2024. The oil and gas content of the field was discovered through well No. 6 drilled in 1983. The well produced 101 tons of condensate and 61,000 m3 of gas per day from 3,638 to 3,656 m. The Alat-Deniz field has been included in industrial development since 1986. As of the 1st of January 2022, 59 wells have been drilled there. More than 2.442 million tons of oil condensate and 1.711 billion m3 of gas were extracted from these wells. At present, 10 oil wells are in operation in the field. The highest oil output in the Alat-Deniz field was in 1989 – 1.776 million tons, and the highest gas production was in 1990 with 116.98 million m3 from 11 wells, respectively. The oil produced in the field contains 9.1-15.4% paraffins, 3.2-25% resins, 0.3-0.48% sulfur and 0.29-2.3% asphaltene.

To fully study the field, it is planned to drill an exploration well from the shore part towards the sea to the VII horizon. Based on the results of the exploration well, the oil and gas saturation of that area of the field will be studied.

The Alat-Deniz field is operated by the Nariman Narimanov OGDP of SOCAR’s Azneft PU.
