Human Rights Statement

14/10/2024
  • We support the inalienable rights of individuals to live free from discrimination and human rights abuses, including child labor, human trafficking, forced labor and bonded labor.
  • We comply with all applicable laws and regulations, including the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Labor Organization Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, and the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.
  • We regularly engage with our external stakeholders to contribute positively to the well-being of the communities where we operate. We consider and evaluate all potential impacts to indigenous peoples including those to their lifestyle in areas where we operate. We pay special attention to risks of human rights violations such as inappropriate acquisition of lands belonging to them, the involuntary resettlement of such peoples to other areas and failure to conduct prior and full-informed consultations with them before starting any projects.
  • We expect our employees to comply with our human rights commitment and ensure that our third-party service providers (including their employees), business partners and others who work on behalf of SOCAR or SOCAR Group Entities, comply with these standards.
  • We encourage our employees to report any human rights abuses in our operations or those of our business partners to the appropriate authorities.
  • We recognize that human trafficking is a violation of human rights and the purchase of sexual services can be illegal, support human trafficking and pose security risks. Therefore, we strictly prohibit any kind of commercialization of sexual services.
  • We do not tolerate any form of sextortion – a specific type of corruption.
  • We strive to cultivate a corporate culture based on respect, care, and fairness , promoting equality, diversity, non-discrimination and inclusion and we expect all employees to treat each other and third parties accordingly.
  • We aim to create a work environment where people are respected regardless of individual differences or personal characteristics.
  • We respect employees’ rights to choose whether to be represented by a trade union for the purpose of collective bargaining. We do not tolerate any discrimination based on an employee’s decision regarding union representation. We respect the rights of our employees to be members of trade unions, non-governmental organizations and to participate in strikes, rallies, gatherings and other mass events, which are not prohibited by the law, organized by such organizations or work teams in accordance with the legislation.
  • We believe that everyone should be treated with fairness, respect and dignity. We strive to be an equal-opportunity employer committed to ensuring decent working conditions and equal remuneration for work performed within categories based on objective criteria. We do not tolerate discrimination against colleagues or any other individuals including candidates for positions of SOCAR employees.
  • We prohibit all forms of discrimination that includes unfair or biased treatment based on citizenship, race, gender, age, disability, work position, sexual orientation, religious and political views, faith, national or ethnic origin, language, societal or social origin, place of residence, family status, including marital or parental status or any other characteristic that compromises equality. We also do not allow any discrimination among employees due to factors not related to an employee’s work qualifications, professionalism and performance results, establishment of direct or indirect privileges and concessions and limitation of rights based on such factors.
  • We are committed to ensuring the payment of fair wages in no less than both the sum of minimum living standards and legislatively established minimum salary limit in the areas where we operate, as well as providing workers with decent rest time. We take all necessary measures in accordance with applicable labor legislation to set the maximum number of working hours per day and week, to prevent exploitation, to ensure that overtime work is used only in exceptional circumstances and with fair compensation and to ensure employees’ vacation rights including fair compensation during annual paid leave. We strive to avoid discrimination in the payment of wages, especially disparities based on gender differences among employees. While optimizing employment relationships, particularly during the performance of structural changes we have obligations to consult with trade unions and to provide sufficient advance notice to affected workers, so they have time to search for new employment opportunities. In addition to complying properly and fully with these requirements, we expect the same approach from all our employees and other individuals involved in our operations, including business partners, third-party service providers, and their representatives.
  • We do not tolerate any form of harassment or violence, including sexual harassment and bullying whether it originates from colleagues regardless of their work position or non-employees or whether it is applied towards colleagues regardless of their work position or non-employees.
  • We have embedded our human rights compliance commitment into dedicated sections of our Code of Business Ethics and Conduct, addressing human rights, harassment, discrimination, equal opportunity, equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • We encourage our employees, third-party service providers, business partners, representatives of communities and other stakeholders to report cases on breaches of requirements of Our Code to SOCAR’s Ethics and Compliance Helpline.
