SOCAR held an event to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the oil industry archive.
Representatives from the archive departments of state institutions, SOCAR executives, and employees from the implementation control and clerical departments of SOCAR group enterprises, along with those responsible for archival work, attended the event.
First, the event participants explored the exhibition “Heydar Aliyev and Oil Strategy” along with a showcase of retro archival documents. The exhibition featured original copies of the Contract of the Century, initiated and signed under the leadership of the National Leader, as well as agreements on the exploration, development, and production sharing of the Shah Deniz prospect field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, the Absheron offshore block, and other significant historical documents.
The event commenced with the playing of the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan and honored the memory of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country’s territorial integrity with a minute of silence.
The event featured speeches by Hafiz Zeynalov, Head of SOCAR Administration, Hasan Hasanov, Deputy Head of the National Archives of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Elmira Alakbarova, Director of the Socio-Political Documents Archive of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Agali Huseynov, Head of the SOCAR Central Archive.
The speeches highlighted the role of the energy policy defined by National Leader Heydar Aliyev in the comprehensive development of the country. Speakers emphasized that archives have always played a crucial role in strengthening statehood and that Great Leader Heydar Aliyev highly valued their significance. They also noted that the Decree on the Improvement of Archival Work in the Republic of Azerbaijan, signed by the National Leader on December 2, 2002, laid the foundation for a fundamental renewal of the material and technical support of archives and established a legislative framework in this area.
The event focused on the advancements in organizing archival work in Azerbaijan using modern technologies and the successes achieved under the strong support of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. Speakers emphasized the significance of ongoing state-backed initiatives aimed at further enhancing archival management.
Additionally, the event provided insights into SOCAR’s efforts in digitization, document preservation, and archival security. It was noted that, alongside SOCAR's Head Office, relevant initiatives were also being implemented across SOCAR enterprises to enhance and comprehensively develop archival management.
As part of the event, the videos “Documents of Oil History” and “History Preserved for Future Generations” were presented, showcasing the digitization of archival documents using modern technological equipment at the SOCAR Central Archive and the organization of secure document preservation.
