High Density Polyethylene Plant

The foundation of the High-Density Polyethylene Plant (HDPP), which is one of the two main production facilities of the SOCAR Polymer founded in 2013 for the development of the petrochemical industry of our country, was laid by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev in October 2015. The head of state also attended the opening ceremony held on the 18th of February 2019.

HDPP, with an annual production capacity of 120,000 tons, was built to international standards. The well-known polymer production company INEOS's technology, was used in the plant's construction. The contractor company Maire Tecnimont (Italy) worked within the EPC (Engineering, Supply, and Employment) contract framework. Fluor B.V. of the Netherlands was involved as a PMC (Project Management Consulting Company) contractor for control purposes. The international Equator Principles (EP) were observed to minimize the environmental and social impacts, and the well-known Canadian company Golder Associates cooperated in this field.

During the construction period of the plant, approximately 22,100 m³ of reinforced concrete work was done, approximately 3,400 tonnes of metal structures were installed, 688 piles were driven, 106,612 inches of pipework was done per day, and approximately 24,100 m³ of concrete was poured.

There is a cooling tower, nitrogen production unit, condensing unit, measuring devices and technical air system, general electrical substation, hexane and isobutane storage tanks, flare unit, chemical additive storage, central control room, laboratory, bagging and packaging facilities, as well as a finished product warehouse in the area of the general economic and engineering facilities of the plant.

Various types of HDPE are produced at the plant. It is used for the production of films, PE100 class pressure pipes designed for water and gas transportation, consumer goods (dishes, buckets, baskets, etc., plastic boxes and rubbish containers for fruits and vegetables, bottles, canisters, barrels), and chemicals; it is used in the preparation of containers for substances, as well as covers for metal pipes. Most of these products are intended for export, and there is sufficient demand in the local market.
