The Neftchi Health and Sport Center (HSC) plays a crucial role in physical education and promoting and developing fitness in Azerbaijan.
The center's primary mission is to promote the health of petroleum industry employees and their families and provide physical and athletic training that meets modern requirements. Currently more than 170 professional coaches and trainers at the Center's 12 fitness facilities are serving thousands of children and adolescents in addition to petroleum industry workers in 26 sports. All of the Center's facilities have been renovated and modernized. There are athletic facilities such as the Tofig Ismailov Olympics Training Complex, different sport centers, Garadagh and Ismet Gayibov Training Centers, Shirvan, Pirallahi, Siyezen, and Garachuxur Stadiums, Meshel Sport Club, and the Azerneft Volleyball Club.
The athletes of the Neftchi HSC are known for their great accomplishments in representing the Republic of Azerbaijan at the 29th Summer Olympics in Beijing and the 13th Para-Olympic Games. The Neftchi HCS's athletes accounted for 26 of Azerbaijan's 44 athletes at the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics. Elnur Mammadov won a gold medal in judo. The Neftchi HCS's athletes who represented Azerbaijan at the Olympics won 4 gold medals, 2 silvers, and 1 bronze. The 13th Para-Olympic Games were good to Neftchi HSC as well. All the 18 athletes representing our country at the Games are products of this sport center. Our country's Para-Olympians won a total of 10 medals, including 2 golds, 3 silvers, and 5 bronzes.
